Friction welding is a relatively new metal welding method. It is different from traditional welding methods, mainly using heat energy from high-speed rotating heating tools to rub and heat two metal surfaces above the melting point and apply force, resulting in the fusion of the two metal surfaces. Compared with traditional welding technology, friction welding processing has the following characteristics:

1. No molten matter generated

The traditional welding technology mainly uses high temperature to melt metal materials before welding, which generates a large amount of molten material during the welding process, affecting the quality and performance of the parts. Friction welding does not need to melt metal materials, nor will it produce molten materials, thus ensuring the quality and performance of weldments.

2. No auxiliary materials need to be used

The traditional friction welding processing welding technology requires the use of welding wire, gas, flux cored electrode and other auxiliary materials to enhance the welding strength, and prevent oxidation, volatilization of liquid metal, air gap and other problems. Friction welding does not need these auxiliary materials, which can reduce production costs, save time and metal material resources.

3. Wide application range

Friction welding can be used for a variety of different types of metal materials, such as titanium alloy, aluminum alloy, magnesium alloy, copper alloy, nickel alloy, carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel base alloy, etc. Friction welding is not limited to the welding of plates, and even can be used for mutual welding of pipes and special-shaped workpieces. Even metal materials of different materials can be successfully welded.

4. Low energy consumption and emissions

The processing energy of friction welding is low, which can reduce environmental pollution and energy consumption. At the same time, because friction welding does not require additional gas or liquid infiltration, it can reduce the generation of exhaust gas and sewage, and reduce the impact on the environment.

5. Effective and Convenient

Traditional welding methods require multiple processing steps, such as cleaning, adjusting, and sealing. Friction welding can be completed quickly and effectively by putting two objects together and exerting force. Friction welding technology is also equipped with robot operation, which greatly improves the production efficiency and reduces the waste of human resources.

In general, friction welding processing technology is very suitable for various small and medium-sized batch production or high complexity products. Although its investment cost is high, its production rate is high, and the cost of materials and labor saved in production makes it a widely used welding technology.
